Welcome to FBSA Softball
FBSA has options for softball players starting at ages 3U-15U. Blastball, is a co-ed introduction to the games of baseball and softball for ages 3U and 4U.
For older players, FBSA offers recreation level softball for spring and fall seasons in the following age groups: 6U, 8U, 10U, 12U and 15U.
Players of all ages and skill levels are welcome to play. No prior experience is necessary. To determine your child’s age division, consult the 2024 Softball age chart.
FBSA strives to ensure all players, regardless of skill level, have the opportunity to play. Coaches and parents are expected to encourage players and maintain a positive, safe and supportive environment. Teams must bat the roster in all age divisions and no player may sit two consecutive innings, per the fair play rule. FBSA encourages coaches to play every player in the infield at least one inning each game. All coaches are volunteers and must pass a background check.
Official Softball rules can be found at Softball Rules, but below is a brief description for each age division.
6U – Modified T-ball – Non-competitive, instructional play with no umpires and no score kept. Coaches will pitch three balls to batter. If the ball is not put into play, player will hit off the tee. All players play defense every inning.
8U – Modified Player Pitch – Modified player pitch is in effect for innings 1-2. Pitching distance is 30 feet. Player will pitch until four balls are thrown or ball is put into play. If ball is not put in play, coach pitcher will finish the count. After the second inning, play will transition to all coach pitch. Bat the roster, 10 defensive players. No stealing.
10U - Modified Player Pitch – When enough players/teams exist, 10U will be divided into Silver and Gold divisions.
- Silver division is modified player pitch. Pitching distance is 35 feet. Player will pitch until four balls are thrown or ball is put into play; no walks. If ball is not put in play, coach pitcher will finish the count. Bat the roster, 10 defensive players. Stealing 2B and 3B is allowed, but not home and no dropped third strike.
- Gold division is advanced 10U Rec Softball and will be player pitch only. Pitching distance is 35 feet. Walks are allowed and dropped third strike and infield fly rules are in effect. Bat the roster, 10 defensive players. Players are allowed to steal any base.
12U – Player Pitch – Same as 10U Gold, except pitching distance is 40 feet, ball is 12” and only 9 defensive players are used.
15U - Player Pitch – Same as 12U, except pitching distance is 43 feet.
